London Fields (78-2) beat Victoria Park Juniors (77 all out) by 8 wickets
by Simon Lee
Hello, good morning and welcome. The hottest day of the year so far brings LFCC to Millfields to play the 4th league match of the season against Victoria Park Juniors (VPJ). After a crashing defeat against Island last time out, LFCC are looking to bounce straight back.
So straight into the action and Ben Sanders loses the toss and VPJ are going to have a bat. The pitch looks hard but crumbly, and the outfield long; it could be a long hard day in the field unless the ball is pitched up.
LFCC open the bowling up with Ben Davis at one end and Ty Graham at the other. The second ball is full from Davis and is edged straight to Jason Lord at first slip, now that's proper cricket, a great start. Ty runs in for his first ball and it's full and swings back in on the batman and they're up - that was plumb LBW! Two wickets in the first two overs.
The bowlers are certainly putting the ball in the right place. B. Davis starts his second over and another full delivery strikes the batman on the pads, they're up again, another plumb LBW shout and he's given. Three in the first three overs and this is the start LFCC wanted. First change brings Simon Lee on for B. Davis and the ball is certainly moving off the pitch when put in the right place, as he beats the outside edge. Ty continues from the other end, and after a superb delivery beating the batman all ends up, Ty strikes the top of off stump with an absolute beauty. LFCC are on top. S. Lee strikes in this third over with a full toss that's hit straight to Misha at mid-on, a difficult chance, as that came at him with some pace. Graham Rodrigo replaces Ty and is immediately on the spot, hitting the stumps and with Misha now on at the other end, and is also into the wickets with a sublime catch low to his left at first slip from that man J. Lord again.
If the Sky cameras were here that would make the closing highlights! Drinks are taken with VPJ struggling on 77 for 7.
Straight back into the action after the break and Misha is in amongst the wickets again, hitting top of off stump and with D. Miller on at the other end, LFCC are looking to wrap this up PDQ. Miller finishes them off with a brace and is on a hat trick next time out. No runs added after the break and VPJ finish all out for 77. A good performance with the ball from LFCC.
LFCC open up with Rhodri Evans and Graeme Rodrigo. All LFCC have to do is be very watchful and nudge just over 2 an over to secure victory. G. Rodrigo is immediately onto it with a boundary through the gully region. After a steady start, Evans is caught at first slip at the second attempt, which brings J. Lord into the action. After a fiery couple of deliveryies, J.Lord is bowled middle stump. Are LFCC on the rocks? Not with an imposing Troy marching towards the middle under the cover of his floppy hat, and he's is off to a great start with an impeccable cover drive for 4. Rodrigo looks settled despite a couple of shouts for LBW from their left armer and with 19 from an over LFCC steady the ship and look set for the win. A beautiful clip of his legs for 4 from Troy seals the victory.
A solid performance against a young inexperienced VPJ side. Highlights include Misha's 3 overs 2 wickets for 1, and a solid and classy unbeaten 43 not out from G. Rodrigo.London Fields Batting
