by Ben Sanders
An abbreviated game of cricket. Abbreviated by rain.
But before the abbreviation: some bowling. Bloody Lads batted and London Fields bowled. It was hot. Very hot. Sticky.
Utz and Sanders opened. Tightly. A nick behind for each. Two wonderful slip catches by Vidal.
Sanders tired in the heat. Chris Murphy, on NELCL debut, instead bowled quick tight lines. Two wickets for him.
Phin's clever first ball – the low, dipping full toss – was skied to Sanders at mid-off. Taken causally it bought Jack to the crease. Dangerous Jack.
Some rain came. Some standing on the sidelines. Half time drinks: BLCC are 90-5.
Back on. Dangerous Jack plays some outrageous reverse sweeps off leg spinning Vijay.
As with the wicket things looked sticky for LFCC. Runs start to flow. More rain came. Vidal struggled with a muddy crease.
Off we go. We huddle and discuss. An abbreviated game is decided upon. 32 overs.
Back on. Kiwi versus Kiwi ensues. Our Kiwi, Sam, wins, removing Dangerous Kiwi Jack with his first ball. Another wonderful catch for Vidal. This time in the deep.
Some more lusty blows. Some slipping in the field. More rain. And off we go. For good.
League points divided. But both teams united in disappointment at what could have been.London Fields Batting
