Friendly Match vs Hackney CC, May 5, 2013, London Fields

Coach Rolled Over

London Fields (201) beat Coach & Horses (135) by 66 runs

by our fixtures secretary, Steve Donelan

On a lovely day for cricket, Coach rolled in to London Fields for their first match of the season. Coach won the toss and decided to field, despite only having half their side present for the 1pm kick off.

Robin Friend and Dave Lane opened up and put on a 50 partnership before Dave was bowled by an in-swinging yorker for 12. Ben Sanders continued his good form of the previous w/e before being given out lbw for a classy 24. Club stalwart (i.e. Old Man) and future pinch hitter (i.e. Young Man) Rob Harries then came in at 4, and smashed 2 sixes before departing soon after, caught at mid on attempting another large swipe. New members Jack O'Connor and Sam Thornton provided brief cameos and came and went at 5 and 6 respectively before senior pro (i.e. Old Man) Tony Tedore hit a decent 9 at no.7. Captain for the day, Stephen Donelan hit 8 boundaries in his 37 and with a little help from Vincent Croft, Ryan Dunn and David Krohn pushed the score to a very respectable 201 all out.

Credit must be given to the Coach bowlers Taj (2-11); left arm spinner James (1-17 off 6 overs) and Taylor (2-23).

Tea was taken and then Ryan Dunn (3-38 off 8 overs) took the new ball for LFCC in partnership with Vincent Croft (0-35). Ryan made the initial breakthrough with a good low catch taken by keeper Robin. Coach managed to keep the run rate at over 5 an over with the loss of only 3 wickets (all taken by the excellent Ryan) before LFCC ripped out the middle order and ensured that victory appeared to be the only possible result, as Coach went into drinks at 107-7. The partnership of Tony Tedore (4-39 off 6.2) and leg spinner David Krohn (2-17 off 5) did the damage with great support in the field from Sam Thornton (1 catch and 1 run out, the run out being the result of his massive throw from the huge Lido boundary).

An excellent performance by LFCC and it bodes well for the league match between the two at Springfield Park in September.
