Friendly Match vs Hackney Ashes (Intra-Club), Sat 21st September 2019, London Fields

by Paul Teasdale

A day of 1sts for the 5th instalment of the Hashes: the first Hashes tonne, the first to feature drone footage and the first (ok second) ROW WIN!

England's 191, led by a magnificent 124* from Ruby was, in the end, comfortably chased down by a strong RoW outfit. After losing early wickets – nick-offs to Muffi and Uppendra – England were at one point 90-7 so did well to reach a competitive score on a hard, if not always true, wicket aided by a lightning fast outfield. In the face of some decent bowling from Taimoor, Troy and Dhawal, Ruby held the innings together blending stout defence with fine stroke play, helped by late partnerships with Stuart and Jason.

England, led by Turley and Sam T and backed up by Rupert, Alex D and Ruby, bowled valiantly and had the Rowies in trouble seven wickets down but late partnerships from Dhawal and Muffi and Muffi (50) and Upendra (30-odd) saw them comfortably home. Get well soon to Turls who dislocated a fingers trying to stop a booming straight drive from the heavy handed Dhawal.

A great day out for the fielders, well skippered by Vijay and Jason, and even when the club captain was triggered by his VC he took it in good grace (sorry skip!).
