Friendly Match vs Strangers Pilgrims CC, Sat 14th September 2019, London Fields

London Fields beat Strangers Pilgrims

by Darrin Duckworth Lewis

As we neared the end of the season Strangers Pilgrims and LFCC squared off on 14/09 @ London Fields.

Pilgrims batted first and their batsmen got off to a stead start. Our opening bowlers Muffi and Carl Death did well to contain them. Muffi closed with 7 ovs - 1wkt - 24 and took a great catch in the outfield. Carl closed with 7 ovs - 1wkt - 26. Next up was debutant Jules. Was a bit unlucky to go for 2ovs - 20 but showed plenty of promise. Yours truly took some stick too and went for 6ovs - 53 runs. VJ gave leg spin a go and bowled a couple of overs for 18 runs. Then came the chant utz utz utz utz ….closed with 7 ovs - 1wkt - 43. Closing the bowling was debutant Fraser who had a good day in the field under challenging circumstances. Wound up with 5 ovs - 3wkts - 37 which included a stumping by the ever alert bright eyed and bushy tailed caveman. Move over Yosemite Sam. Strangers Pilgrims put on a well compiled 228.

LFCC opened the batting with PA and Vijay taking the crease. PA was unlucky to skittled for 4 - relinquishing his newbury club to Vijay. Paul Holden stepped in and made a classy 49 falling just 1 run short of his maiden half century. A certain match reporter suggested that the half century could have been logged for a small further comments. Cash Mowie aka the Big Matkowski was unlucky and didn't bother the scorers. Jules knocked up a quick fire 28 with some big hitting. Fraser was unlucky to be run out on the non strikers end. Tristan went for 5 including a lovely boundary. Utz got done for 1. Ducky managed 2 not out bringing his season's batting average to .5. Drumroll please. Muffi saw the game through with some sharp boundaries before the last ball went for 4 byes taking us over the line with a few overs to spare.

Batting performance of the day & probably the season went to Vijay who retired on 103 with only 5 actually run...23 boundaries + a six!!!

And the crowd goes wild...
